Open House Board Meeting

The Board
On Thursday, March 2 Northern Colorado Covenant of the River will host an open Board meeting. The Board meetings are typically not open for folks to attend so that the work can get completed. But we do like to have feedback from all of you about what you like or don’t like, what you want more of and things like that. It helps us to plan our finances. We will also be sharing with anyone who attends what the financial status of our church is. So, come on over to the Hall. We will open at 7:000pm. We will start the meeting at 7:30pm.
Zoom is also available. The Zoom Room will open around 7:15pm. Instructions for Zoom is on our front/main page. It’s only once a year and we would really like to see as many people attend as possible.

First Friday Office Hours are scheduled to be in the Hall (901 E Swallow) in person. This is a time we set aside to meet with people who need to talk, work on an idea, or need to be around other people. We will be available from 7:00pm -9:00pm (ish)

Park Cleanup and Coloring Meditation

Winter hours for park cleanup continue meaning we meet at Landings Park (On Boardwalk near Harmony) at 3:30 in the Shelter House for an hour or so of picking up litter. Covenant of the River is the official sponsor of Landings Park so we want to make sure it looks and IS a nice space. We usually finish before 5:30 s0 you will have time to do something else before the evening activities. Landings Park is beautiful all year round and it is so fun to hang out with friends, acquaintences and folks you just met while making the park cleaner. Gloves and bags are provided or bring your own if you prefer as well as a bottle of water if you like. For more information on Landings Park, click here. Everyone is welcome to attend this outdoor freeform activity. Later, our usual Sunday gathering, also open to everyone, will be a coloring meditation with Jean. These are popular and relaxing. Let you hands create something while your mind drifts away to a more peaceful place. Coloring pages and colored pencils will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own. Arrive at 5:30 at River Hall (901 E Swallow) for socializing and to eat if you want to bring your own food. The evening will start at 6:00 with announcement, yahoos, and prayer requests. Full Moon Celebration

Find your voice.. Make your mark. The celestial bodies are dancing, the Wheel is turning as we look forward to the Spring. In this time between Imbolc and Ostara, we can feel our shells cracking open..
Join us at the River Hall for a celebration of the Full Moon. Ritual garb encouraged but not required. Watch the weather as part of this evening will be outside. Sensible shoes recommended as our Sanctuary space is uneven and rocky.
Please park on Swallow Road, not in the cul-de-sac. Donations of mead, money or white unscented pillar candles are always welcome.

Eggs must be getting more magical all the time just based on the price tag at the store so don’t miss it. This might be the best magical egg you ever had. All supplies provided! Council Meeting

Have we mentioned – WE WANT YOUR IDEAS – suggestions, whimsies, half-baked notions, dreams, wishes, wonders, questions. Covenant of the River belongs to all of us – especially you. You probably have some awesome idea percolating and you are afraid to say it. SAY IT! WRITE IT! whisper it in a council member’s ear… But seriously – do put it in writing if you want us busy “old” folks to remember what you want.
Each month the Council, (Jean, Jordan and Chel), get together to schedule Covenant of the River events, write rituals, outline presentations and discuss general community business.
This is when we find out all the exciting new ideas that folks in the community have for us about things to do and rituals they want to share! This community is not Council driven. We are here to facilitate the things others in the community have ideas about, want to do, or want to help with. You don’t have to volunteer to lead your idea, just share your idea. SO – Email council before 7pm tonight so we can see what you have! If you missed it, we will be doing this again next month so go ahead and send it and we will save it for then.
This is not an open meeting. The Zoom room will not be open. Please contact us during Office Hours if you need to speak with one of us.

Fireside with Jean

This event is open to everyone. The Sanctuary is the outdoor area of River Hall at 901 E Swallow Rd

Jean will be holding space for folks to discuss life and faith, to work on rituals or to be supported in releasing things/people/behaviors that no longer serve you. Weather permitting, we will have a fire in the Sanctuary and you are welcome to bring things to burn in the fire. Please make sure that what you intend to burn is safe, legal and yours to burns. Even if we cannot have a fire, we will still gather- it will just be indoors with candles instead! Unfortunately, if we are indoors, we will not be able to burn personal items.
Snacks and beverages to share are appreciated but please eat your main meal before you join us. The gathering is kid friendly. You are welcome to join us at any point in the evening and leave whenever is appropriate for you.
Remember to park on Swallow Road, not in the cul-de-sac.

Ostara Sabbat

Wasn’t it just dark and cold and Yule? Well, not anymore! The Spring Equinox is arriving and with it the Sabbat of Ostara. Guest leader, Elizabeth, will be leading this ritual and sharing her personal ideas about what makes Ostara important and beautiful.(And remember – ANYONE can be a guest presenter or ritual leader, even you!)
**Please note that we have added an egg hunt for any interested children. Bring your kiddos and a basket or bucket for them to put the eggs in. Gather at 4:00. Eggs will be festive plastic eggs provided by Covenant!
This Sabbat celebration includes a “pre-ritual” you can do at home. (it’s optional, you can still come to the Sabbat ritual if you choose to skip the pre-ritual!) More information about this pre-ritual is discussed below in blue. Additional information about attending the Sunday Sabbat is below the pre-ritual.

“Ostara is traditionally a celebration of new life, rebirth and re-growth, and we’ll throw ourselves into those themes. Story-telling, egg divination, and invoking our own springtime renewal will be part of the ritual, all done with a festive, fun vibe. We will try to be outdoors if the weather cooperates.
If you (like me) feel that you’re due for some renewal, but realize that you may be your own biggest obstacle to experiencing it, then consider trying the following optional pre-ritual activity to help shake yourself loose, so that Ostara’s transforming energy can work more deeply in your life.

Come by the Hall (901 E Swallow) to pick up three or four nuts (still in the shell) (If the Hall isn’t open, the basket will be outside the door, otherwise it’s near the windows inside)
Take them home, and set aside 15 or 20 minutes in the week when you can work a little magic. You’ll need the nuts, a pen or pencil, a candle or other tool to symbolize the presence of your guardian spirits, a small paper napkin or square of paper towel, and quiet space for reflection.

Settle into your workspace, drop into your heart, and call your deities or spirits to be present, to witness for you, and to act for you, according to your highest good. Light the candle, and reflect in its glow, something like this:

Shining ones, guardian spirits,
I know I am a tough nut to crack.
I struggle to set aside my fears,
I get trapped in my past,
And despite myself I turn away from opportunity and growth.
Help me to learn to live without a shell
Without constraints
Without fears
Without pretense
In the one golden moment that is always around me
Effortlessly dancing to the music of spirit.

Then pause to consider how your shell, the persona that you built around you to protect yourself, once saved you, but now holds you back. Think of three or four specific things that you believe are parts of you that resist growth and change. For example, for me perfectionism is an issue, rooted in a fear of not being good enough. It makes me work hard (but joylessly), imposes high standards that have lead to some achievement, but also make me hesitate to start new projects. So it’s a shell for me, a constraint. If you can find a couple things like that, which are true for you, then you’re set.

Take a nut in your hand and write a description of the shell you’re releasing on one of its flat sides. It doesn’t matter if you can read the words or not. You might want to write them multiple times on several sides, or use each side for a different kind of shell.

Then breath in the perfect, crystal pure light of spirit (in your imagination). Feel it cleanse you, and dissolve the shells that you’re shedding, from the inside out. Breath the dark fragments of the shell out into the nut in your hand, where they cling like iron filings to a magnet. Maybe try this three times, or maybe until it feels like the breath you exhale is light and pure. Repeat for each shell you want to release, or each nut you want to use.

Set the nuts on the napkin or piece of paper towel (so you don’t handle them with your bare fingers anymore). Finish with a prayer of thanks:
Shining ones, help me to let go
Of the shells I build around me
That make me unfree
That keep me small
That deflect joy.

May the warming Earth take my shells
And melt them away with the snow
Leaving me so I arise anew
A bright being like a flame
True to my highest self.

Witness my work, good spirits, and hold me accountable to these words.
My thanks for your presence and grace, for your guidance and love.

Then bury the nuts in a quiet spot where the ground is soft, imagining how the earth will take them back, until there is nothing left.“

Dark Moon The Morrigan

As I (Chel) write this by the non-light of the February Dark Moon, I am considering The Morrigan as our topic for March. March pulls me to Ireland and The Morrigan has that reputation that makes her perfect for a Dark Moon. A warrior goddess associated with death, people think of her darkness as a symbol of something “dark”. I admit, I am a little afraid of her and I believe she is not one to be trifled with but that’s because she is strong and honest, and is not going to tolerate your deceptions. She is demanding and stalwart and as history has shown, such a list of characteristics in a female can lead to negative thoughts that are underserved. But I also believe that, like the Dark Moon, and so many parts of our world and our lives that are considered dark, there is nothing inherently bad in the darkness of the night, the moon, your magic, or the Morrigan.
COURAGE: I waited and I finally heard this word. It not only takes courage to interact with the Morrigan but she is here to teach us courage. From the courage of a battlefield warrior to the courage of all of those facing pain, injury, disease, a similar life challenges, to the courage we all need, every day to face the challenges in our lives, whatever they may be. Join me tonight and we will talk about the Morrigan and the respectfully call upon her in a ritual to seek her courage and thank her for it.
If you have an item: talisman, coin, feather, candle, athame, pocket knife, stone – anything that you would like to store this courage in, please bring it. You can leave knowing you were courageous enough to meet the Morrigan and that she has given you her gift to hold as you move forward with grace and courage.
If the Morrigan is a part of your practice, as I know is true for some of you, you will know more and feel more strongly toward her and I invite you to come and share your experiences with us. She is not a lady I would like to trifle with and your input is welcome.
It will be our usual gather at 7pm, begin around 7:30 – and in the words of Sherlock Holmes, “if not convenient, come anyway” – you won’t be late. It won’t be long before our dark nights won’t be dark anymore so come and sit with me and the goddess of crows and ravens and death and Ireland and let’s see what she wanst to share with us.

As an eclectic open Pagan Circle, Covenant of the River celebrates and honors many different traditions or paths through ritual, discussion and education. At this Sunday’s gathering, you are invited to share more of your spiritual path by bringing an item from your altar or magical tool kit that acts as a focal point in your practice. This could be statuary of your patron deity, a dog-eared book that you reference all the time or a special incense that you light to center yourself before you do a ritual. How does this tool help guide your practice? When did you first find it? Show n Tell gatherings often teach us more about our own paths while exposing others to new ideas.
If you are unable to bring the actual item, consider taking a photo of the item and we can share it on the screen in the Hall. As always, if you have questions or concerns about this gathering please reach out to Council.
