Park Clean Up

Once a month or so, we like to get together and walk through our adopted park, Landings Park, to pick up litter and keep it clean.  Boots on the ground environmentalism. It takes less than an hour usually and it’s a fun way to spend some time together.  Bring your gloves and wear closed toed shoes or boots. We do have some extra gloves but they may not fit you.

Please note that what we mostly pick up is general litter like drink containers and cigarette butts. Sometimes there are interesting things, like clothing or a curling iron – things that make you go “WHAT?”. We do not pick up animal waste or dead animals. The hardest thing you’ll ever pick up are the bits of a dog’s tennis ball run over by the lawnmower! You don’t have to pick anything up – too gross, too weird, whatever – just point it out and someone else will help. Come and see what it’s like! Want to walk and talk but bending over is too much? Totally fine. We love to talk and you can be on the lookout for things we might miss. Everyone is welcome and the only “rule” is proper footwear (not really a rule but VERY strongly recommended).

It can get tricky in the winter and we do need to get there early enough to have daylight.  So we arrive at 3:30.  As the days get longer we will meet later and have our Sunday gathering in the park, weather permitting. (Bring your own food)  Summer hours usually begin in May. And if it gets cold or windy or snowy or rainy or any other weather that is not nice for being outside, we will cancel the cleanup, posting the cancellation on the website front page and on Facebook.

We will be done before the evening activities begin at the hall.  *you don’t have to clean the park to participate in the discussion.  Either or both!  Where is the park?  Check here:    Landings Park
