Lammas Lughnasadh

07/30/2023 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Lughnasadh!  Lammas! Whatever you call it, it’s the first harvest celebration.  The grains and seeds are being harvested and there is much to be thankful for.   Lughnasadh celebrates the Celtic god, Lugh, a warrior, a protector, a sun god.  Lammas is often more associated with bread and grain.  Summer is drawing to an end and it is time to begin bringing in the harvest for the winter and to share with each other.

We are having potlucks again and this is a great Sabbat for sharing the things we make with seeds, especially bread, and yummy things to put on bread like honey, fruit jam, butters, cheeses.   Please bring a bread, a grain dish, crackers, or something to go with the these or more than one of these – IF YOU ARE ABLE.  If you can’t or don’t want to, please still come and enjoy what we have to share.  You don’t have to bake it or make it; stop and get some gluten free rolls on your way or grab half a stick of butter out of the box.

The ritual will include a blessing of the grains for the coming year.  You may want to bring a little flour or rice or even your instant oatmeal or corn flakes for a blessing during the ritual.  These will be items you will take back home with you to include the celebration of abundance with your kitchen for the coming winter.

And yes, the spicy Q  ginger beer that includes ground seeds from coriander, chili, and cardamom will be available

The hall will open at 5:30 for our usual time of potluck when we can share the goodies you bring to share.   The ritual will begin around 6:00 and will include the blessing of grains you take home.   Extra grains will be available to take if you are unable to bring any or forget.

Ritual garb encouraged but not required

With the harvest and the grain, we grow and sustain our community.  With the strength of Lugh we take care of each other.
